Formula
Planned moving cost = Moving service + Packing and supplies + Travel and access + ContingencyDirect answer
Add the moving-service quote, packing and supplies, travel and access costs, and a contingency amount you choose. FMCSA explains that a non-binding moving estimate is an approximation, so this calculator is a budget total rather than a quote or guarantee.
Variables and formula
- Moving service cost: a written quote or estimate you enter.
- Packing and supplies: packing labor, boxes and materials.
- Travel and access costs: fuel, parking, access or similar charges you include.
- Contingency: a stated reserve for uncertain but plausible costs.
Planned moving cost = Moving service + Packing and supplies + Travel and access + Contingency
Reproducible example
With $1,800 for moving service, $350 for packing, $250 for travel and $300 contingency, the budget is 1,800 + 350 + 250 + 300 = $2,700.
Interpretation
The moving-service share shows how much of the entered budget comes from the service quote. Check a mover’s written estimate and all included charges separately before committing.
Assumptions and limitations
- Each amount uses the same currency and describes one move.
- No cost is added unless you enter it.
- This calculator is not a binding estimate, insurance valuation, consumer-rights assessment or legal advice.
Common mistakes
- Treating a non-binding estimate as a final charge.
- Forgetting access, parking, packing or travel costs.
- Entering a contingency twice under another cost line.
Assumptions
- Every entered cost uses the same currency and move scope.
- The mover figure is a quote or planning estimate supplied by the user.
- This is not a binding quote, insurance valuation, consumer-rights assessment or legal advice.
