The kWh-to-J direction remains inside the energy quantity; it changes the unit label and numerical scale, not the kind of quantity being measured.
Relationship and precision
The named unit relationships are defined or exact, so the conversion is exact before display rounding and source-measurement uncertainty.

Interpretation
Read the result as joules, not kilowatt-hours. A value entered as kWh leaves the calculator labelled J; this directional distinction matters even when the two units describe the same energy quantity.
Assumptions and limitations
- Only non-negative energy amounts are accepted by this family; sign conventions for import/export require a separate model.
- Calorie means the thermochemical calorie (cal_th), exactly 4.184 J, not the International Table calorie or dietary Calorie/kilocalorie.
- Btu means the International Table British thermal unit (Btu_IT), exactly 1055.05585262 J, not thermochemical, mean, 39 °F, 59 °F, or 60 °F variants.
Common mistakes
- kW/h is a rate of change of power and is not kWh.
- J is energy; W is power, equal to joules per second.
