The named unit relationships are defined or exact, so the conversion is exact before display rounding and source-measurement uncertainty.
- B relationship: The base factor is exactly 1 by the family base-unit choice; the eight-bit byte relation is exact.

Interpretation
Read the result as megabytes, not bytes. A value entered as B leaves the calculator labelled MB; this directional distinction matters even when the two units describe the same data size quantity.
Assumptions and limitations
- Only non-negative data-size values are accepted by this family.
- One byte is eight bits in this family; bit-rate and transfer-time conversions are outside scope.
- Kilobyte, megabyte, and gigabyte are decimal: 10^3, 10^6, and 10^9 bytes. Kibibyte is binary: 2^10 = 1024 bytes.
Common mistakes
- Uppercase B denotes byte; lowercase b denotes bit.
- Mb denotes megabit, while MB denotes megabyte.
